About Me

The Art of a Contractor Have you ever thought of building as a type of artwork? If you were to interact with a few construction workers or contractors, and then talk to them about their work, you might come to see it this way. Designing and building a whole structure requires some sort of artistic intellect. It might be a different sort of artistry than one would use to create a painting or a drawing, but it is art nonetheless. On this blog, we are going to write about construction and contractors. We aim to do that from a range of perspectives, which should keep things interesting.

When you don't get cool air out of your vents and you have your air conditioner on, it can be frustrating. You want cool air so you can relax in your home on those hot and muggy days, but when your air conditioner isn't running properly, it can be difficult to relax in your own home. Repairing your ac system may be something very simple, and you may be able to make the repair yourself, but you should know what to look for and where to start. Read on for some tips to help you.

Your Thermostat

You need to test your thermostat and make sure it's working properly. To do this, you can use a different thermometer near your thermostat to see if the temperature is reading properly. It may read a degree or two different, but if it's a major difference, you may have a problem with your thermostat. Adjusting your thermostat should turn the air conditioner on, but if making the adjustment doesn't work, you should replace the thermostat. Replace the thermostat with a digital thermostat that is more accurate and energy-efficient.

Your Exterior Unit

Your exterior unit could be the problem, as it may be too dirty or have some other issues that were caused by the outside elements. You need to ensure your unit is kept clean and free of dirt and other debris. The exterior unit should have clearance around it of at least three feet all the way around it. It shouldn't have anything growing too close to it at all. Be sure you aren't mowing too closely and blowing the clippings into the unit. You should also keep your pet from urinating on the unit, as it can cause it to disintegrate. Inspect your exterior unit and clean it as best as you can and clear anything too close to it.

Your Air Filter

You need to be sure the air filter is not full of debris and it should be changed at least every other month. Change the old filter and replace it with a new one that is of the same size. A dirty air filter can cause your air conditioner to struggle to get enough air to the system and choke the unit so it cannot pull in the right amount of air. It can also pull in too much debris and cause your system to fail altogether and simply shut down.

If your air conditioner is not running properly, you may be able to make the repair yourself using the information above. If you are not able to repair it, you should call a professional HVAC technician.
