The Art of a Contractor Have you ever thought of building as a type of artwork? If you were to interact with a few construction workers or contractors, and then talk to them about their work, you might come to see it this way. Designing and building a whole structure requires some sort of artistic intellect. It might be a different sort of artistry than one would use to create a painting or a drawing, but it is art nonetheless. On this blog, we are going to write about construction and contractors. We aim to do that from a range of perspectives, which should keep things interesting.

If you enjoy working on cars or other projects in your garage but don't love flies and other insects pestering you, then installing a retractable screen is a fantastic solution.

A retractable garage door screen allows you to quickly and easily close off the interior space to insects while still allowing the fresh outdoor air to flow in.

When you are finished with your projects, then you can effortlessly retract the screen.

Retractable screens aren't completely cleaning- or maintenance-free. However, by following just three simple steps a few times each year, your retractable garage screen will provide you with many years of trouble-free service.

These three simple steps are as follows:

Step 1: Regular Vacuuming of the Tracks

In order to retract without effort, a screen's tracks need to be clean and free from dirt or grime.

To easily remove all of the dirt from the lower track, simply vacuum it out with either your household vacuum cleaner or shop vac.

It is also a good idea to run the vacuum hose over the top track, side panel, and the screen itself to remove any dust or cobwebs that will eventually end up in the lower track.

If you don't have a shop vac and would rather not use your household vacuum, then a stiff broom will also do the job.

Step 2: Clean the Tracks with a Mild Household Cleaner

Since retractable screen tracks require lubrication to function correctly, they tend to get gunked up. To easily remove the gunk, clean the tracks with a mild household cleaner and a soft cloth.

You can use a general cleaner or degreaser designed for household use or a solution of liquid dish soap and warm water.

Regardless of the cleaner you choose, make sure it does not contain any abrasives and is not oil-based. Both oil-based and abrasive cleaners can lead to track damage.

Step 3: Lubricate the Retractable Garage Screen's Tracks

Finally, it is vital to always lubricate the screen's tracks well after cleaning. Adequate lubrication allows the screen to open and retract with ease and this cuts down on wear and tear.

The easiest way to lubricate the tracks is by spraying them with a silicone-based lubricant. You can either use a specialty silicone spray made by the manufacturer of your retractable garage door, or you can buy a can of silicone lubricant spray at a local hardware store.
